About this role

Griffin Spalding County Schools is seeking a qualified Substitute Nurse to provide essential nursing services to students in a school-based setting in Griffin, GA. As a Substitute Nurse, you will step into a critical support role, ensuring continuity of student health care when the primary school nurse is unavailable. Your work will directly impact the well-being, safety, and academic success of students across the district. In this role, you will serve as a trusted health resource for students, parents, teachers, and administrators, addressing a wide range of health concerns from routine illness management to emergency response. You will be expected to maintain a professional, compassionate, and confidential environment in the school health clinic, upholding the highest standards of nursing care within a school setting. As a substitute position, flexibility is key — assignments may vary by school location, grade level, and duration based on district need. This is an excellent opportunity for a licensed nurse who values community impact, enjoys working with children, and is looking for meaningful, flexible work within a supportive school district environment.

A Day in the Life

A typical day as a Substitute Nurse at Griffin Spalding County Schools begins with reviewing student medical alert cards and familiarizing yourself with any students who have chronic conditions, medication schedules, or special health plans. You may assist with health screenings such as vision, hearing, or scoliosis checks, and provide support to students with special needs requiring skilled nursing care such as catheterizations or tube feedings. Your day wraps up with ensuring the clinic is clean, well-stocked, and that all documentation — including any Medicaid billing entries or COVID-19 reporting — is completed accurately and on time.
