Spur Staffing is seeking hard-working and punctual substitute Food Nutrition Assistants to support Atlanta Public Schools' cafeteria operations across the district. In this role, you will perform routine duties involved in the preparation and serving of food as part of kitchen facilities and equipment operations and cleaning, working under the supervision of a cafeteria manager or designated supervisor. Your work directly supports student health and wellness — ensuring that every child receives a safe, nutritious meal in a welcoming and well-maintained dining environment. To remain active in this role, you must work a minimum of four days per month. Please be advised that this position requires the handling of milk, peanuts, eggs, and other foods that commonly trigger allergic reactions. Candidates should be comfortable with physical demands, including standing for extended periods and lifting heavy objects, and must be prepared to follow all food safety and sanitation protocols consistently throughout each shift.

A Day in the Life

Your day begins before the first lunch bell rings — arriving at the school cafeteria, clocking in, and quickly getting oriented with the cafeteria manager on the day's menu and assignments. You'll spend your shift arranging food and beverages for safe and efficient service to students and staff, interacting positively with students, staff, and administration to create a friendly and welcoming dining environment. During service, you'll work as part of a team to keep the lunch line moving smoothly, ensuring every student is served promptly and with care. Between and after service periods, you'll clean utensils, equipment, and food storage, preparation, and serving areas, conduct inventory of food, condiments, and supplies, and maintain food service equipment. Throughout the day, you'll also perform additional duties such as taking out the trash multiple times a day and mopping floors, keeping the cafeteria clean and compliant with health standards. A successful day means students are fed on time, the kitchen is clean and organized, and you've represented Atlanta Public Schools with professionalism and positivity from start to finish.

Responsibilities

• Arrange food and beverages for safe and efficient service to students and staff during meal periods
• Clean utensils, equipment, and food storage, preparation, and serving areas to maintain health and safety standards
• Inspect food items and supplies to verify quantity and specifications of orders and to comply with mandated health standards
• Interact positively with students, staff, administration, and the general public to establish a friendly and welcoming dining environment
• Conduct inventory of food, condiments, and supplies to ensure availability of items throughout the school day
• Maintain food service equipment in proper working condition and report any issues to the cafeteria manager
• Perform additional duties as assigned, including taking out trash multiple times daily and mopping floors
• Follow all food safety, sanitation, and allergen-awareness protocols to ensure the health and safety of all students and staff
• Prepare and serve food as part of kitchen facilities and equipment operations
• Work under the supervision of a cafeteria manager or designated supervisor
• Work as part of a team to keep the lunch line moving smoothly and ensure every student is served promptly and with care
• Keep the cafeteria clean and compliant with health standards throughout and after service periods
• Represent the school and program in a positive and professional manner
• Adhere to all rules, guidelines, and health standards set by the school and district
• Arrive on time, clock in, and review the day's menu and assignments with the cafeteria manager
• Maintain a punctual and professional outlook and appearance at all times

Requirements

Required

• ! Completion of the Atlanta Public Schools Background Check and Badge process (APS Badge required before beginning any assignment)
• ! Prior related experience working with children in a school, childcare, or similar setting
• ! Ability to lift or move heavy objects up to 65 pounds
• ! Ability to work a minimum of four days per month to maintain active status
• ! Ability to stand, walk, and perform physical tasks for the duration of a school cafeteria shift
• ! Willingness and ability to handle common food allergens, including milk, peanuts, and eggs
• ! Ability to consistently follow food safety and sanitation protocols
• ! Ability to work efficiently and effectively in a fast-paced school cafeteria environment
• ! Adherence to all school and district rules, guidelines, and health standards
• ! Professionalism and positive representation of the school and program; punctual and professional outlook and appearance
• ! Ability to work as part of a team to keep service lines moving smoothly
• ! Required uniform for every shift: black pants, white shirt, and non-skid, slip-resistant shoes

Preferred

• Previous experience in food service, cafeteria operations, or a commercial kitchen environment
• Knowledge of basic food safety and sanitation practices (ServSafe certification or equivalent is a plus)
• Familiarity with school nutrition programs or K-12 school environments
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage positively with children of varying ages
