About this role
Griffin-Spalding County Schools, in partnership with Spur Staffing, is seeking a dedicated and professional Long-Term Substitute Teacher to provide instructional continuity during an extended teacher absence. This role is an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about education to make a meaningful impact in a classroom setting while supporting students through a consistent, structured learning experience. Griffin-Spalding County Schools is committed to maintaining high-quality instruction for every student, and long-term substitutes play a vital role in upholding that standard. The Long-Term Substitute Teacher will assume full day-to-day classroom responsibilities, implementing existing lesson plans, managing student behavior, and maintaining a productive and respectful learning environment. Unlike a traditional day-to-day substitute, this position requires a higher level of commitment, consistency, and professional engagement—you'll get to know your students, track their progress, and become a trusted presence in the school community. This is a role that rewards reliability, adaptability, and a genuine enthusiasm for working with young learners. This position is based in Griffin, Georgia, and operates in alignment with the Griffin-Spalding County Schools calendar and schedule. All candidates must meet Georgia state requirements, including successful completion of a Georgia Gemalto background check, required substitute training, and acknowledgment of the Griffin-Spalding Employee Handbook before beginning work.
A Day in the Life
Your day begins when students arrive—you'll greet them, take attendance, and set the tone for a focused and productive classroom environment. Using the lesson plans and instructional materials left by the classroom teacher, you'll deliver instruction, facilitate learning activities, and assign and explain classwork and homework throughout the day. Between lessons, you'll circulate the room to provide support, answer questions, and keep students on track. You'll handle routine classroom management with confidence, addressing behavioral concerns calmly and consistently in line with school policies. At the end of each day, you'll complete any required reports, document relevant observations about student progress, and communicate important updates to school administration or the returning teacher as needed. Success in this role looks like a classroom that runs smoothly, students who feel supported and engaged, and a school team that trusts you to hold down the fort every single day.
