About this role

Spur Staffing is seeking a dedicated and flexible Substitute Paraprofessional to support Bullock County schools in Union Springs, Alabama. This on-call position provides instructional support to teachers and other school staff to enhance the learning environment for students. You will work directly with students in classroom settings, helping to reinforce lessons, support individual learning needs, and maintain a safe and productive environment. This role requires flexibility, professionalism, and a positive attitude.

A Day in the Life

Your day begins when you receive an assignment notification from Spur Staffing. Upon arrival, you check in with the front office, review notes or lesson plans, and prepare the classroom. Throughout the day, you assist in preparing instructional materials, supervise students during instructional and non-instructional activities, and provide individual and group support. You might work one-on-one with students, guide small groups, or assist with assessments. You also provide enrichment and remedial assistance, ensure students transition safely, and leave notes for the returning teacher.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of instructional materials and the physical classroom environment to support daily learning activities
  • Support teachers in planning and preparing for group and individual student activities aligned with curriculum goals
  • Supervise students during instructional and non-instructional periods, including transitions, lunch, and other school activities
  • Provide individual and small group instructional support to reinforce academic skills and concepts
  • Deliver enrichment and remedial assistance to students as required by the classroom teacher or school staff
  • Assist with testing and evaluation activities to help monitor and determine student progress
  • Participate in activities and interactions that promote positive engagement and a supportive instructional environment
  • Communicate effectively with classroom teachers, school staff, and administrators to ensure seamless instructional continuity during substitute assignments

Requirements

Required

  • ! Ability to work on an on-call, as-needed basis with flexible scheduling
  • ! Friendly and approachable attitude when interacting with students, staff, and school community members
  • ! Prior related experience working with children in an educational, childcare, or youth-focused setting
  • ! Punctual, professional demeanor with the ability to represent the school and Spur Staffing positively
  • ! Maintains a professional appearance appropriate for a K-12 school environment
  • ! Ability to lift heavy objects up to 65 lbs as required by school duties

Preferred

  • Associate's degree or higher in Education, Child Development, or a related field
  • Experience working in a K-12 school setting as a paraprofessional, teacher's aide, or classroom volunteer
  • Familiarity with basic instructional strategies, behavior management techniques, or special education support practices
