About this role

Bullock County School District is seeking dependable and hardworking Substitute Custodians to join their facilities support team in Union Springs, Alabama. As a Substitute Custodian, you will play a vital role in maintaining clean, safe, and welcoming school environments for students, staff, and visitors. This position is placed through Spur Staffing and offers flexible, on-call work opportunities that fit a variety of schedules. Substitute Custodians are called upon to fill in when regular custodial staff are unavailable, making reliability and flexibility essential qualities for success in this role. You will be expected to step into an existing routine quickly, follow established cleaning protocols, and maintain the high standards of cleanliness that the district requires across its school facilities.

A Day in the Life

A typical day as a Substitute Custodian at a Bullock County school begins with checking in at the main office and receiving your assignment for the day. You'll review the regular custodian's schedule and task list, then get to work sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming hallways, classrooms, restrooms, and common areas. Throughout the school day, you may respond to spills or unexpected messes, ensuring that high-traffic areas remain clean and safe for students and staff. During lunch periods, you may assist with cafeteria cleanup, wiping down tables and sanitizing surfaces. As the school day winds down, you'll perform deeper cleaning tasks — disinfecting restrooms, emptying trash bins, cleaning windows and surfaces, and restocking supplies such as paper towels and soap. Success in this role looks like a school that is visibly clean, safe, and ready for the next school day — and a team that knows they can count on you to show up and get the job done right.
